The location in Coosa Pines, Alabama, is seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance Planner. This job is full time and onsite .

Primary Purpose


The Maintenance Planner is responsible for all aspects of planning and scheduling including scoping of all maintenance work, evaluating quotes for work and equipment, implementing improvement of the asset management system, developing job packets, contractor selection, managing contract work, and actively participating in plant safety.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safety
    • Active participation in crew safety meetings, promoting engagement in the safety process, and ensuring the substance of the meetings.
    • The safety goal is zero incidents (contractors included).
    • Perform assigned 360 Risk Analysis Audits.
  • Environmental
    • Work with Operations and Maintenance Coordinator to schedule and assign critical environmental PM jobs. (goal 100% compliance).
    • Work with crew and contractors to ensure there are no environmental incidents associated with assigned work.
    • Be vigilant and report any environmental issues found or reported.
    • Work with operations to properly prioritize environmental issues.
  • Team Work
    • Exhibit excellent cooperation with Maintenance Coordinators, Operations Coordinators, Contractors, and peers.
    • Be a Team Leader and direct proper actions with contractors and crew.
    • Serve as a temporary resource for coordinating peak activities as work load permits.
  • Crisis Management
    • Actively participate in process equipment troubleshooting and failure analysis.
    • Coordinate any maintenance contract work including evaluating and recommending appropriate contractor to perform needed work.
    • Serve as a technical resource. Provide manuals, drawings, equipment files, etc.
    • Assist in “break in work.” (Planner will be involved if enough lead time exists to properly plan the job to the desired level)
  • Contract Coordination
    • Minimize contractor work delays.
    • Closely manage T&M contract work.
    • Develop job scopes. Complexity of the scope will depend on the complexity of the work.
    • Serve as a liaison between the Company and contractor to resolve issues and determine job status and completion and make sure contractors provide precision maintenance forms, return to service forms and other required documentation.
  • Planning and Scheduling
    • Participate in weekly planning and scheduling meetings.
    • Keep current with annual inspections to develop work scopes for the following outages.
    • Develop job scope and/or process to be utilized to complete required job tasks to complete work order on time and budget.
    • Evaluate contractor quotes and provide recommendation on contractor selection.
    • Ensures, and if necessary, acquire, proper parts, tools, supplies and equipment are available before job is assigned.
    • Generate stores pick list in support of planning work orders.
    • Generate requisitions for non-stock items in support of planning work orders.
    • Stage parts for maintenance jobs. (pre-kitting, hands on verification, directing stores on delivery, etc.)
    • Prepare weekly forecast schedule for the areas.
    • Develop shutdown timelines electronically using Microsoft Project.
    • Prepare ATS forms as needed.
    • Manage Work Order Backlog by priority.
  • Housekeeping
    • Participate in required housekeeping audits.
    • Ensure contractors work in a clean and respectful manner.
  • General Job Duties
    • Manage major maintenance budgets, spending forecasting, mid month forecasting, accruals, and assist in development of major maintenance budgets.
    • Participate in screening work requests.
    • Update BOM for each equipment.
    • Participates in employee performance evaluation including recommendations for employee discipline.
    • Update drawings, parts list, job steps, enter work order history information into maintenance management system.


Knowledge and Experience


  • Five (5) or more years experience in maintenance preferably in a pulp/paper or industrial setting.
  • Possess excellent teamwork and organizational skills.
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think “outside the box”.
  • Functional use of Microsoft Office and maintenance systems (CMMS SAP, Microsoft Project).
  • Highly organized and uses efficient work methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and continue to develop knowledge and skills.
